Analysts/Associates

Our analysts and associates are an integral part of the investment acquisition and management teams and are involved in such functions as preparing industry analyses, targeting and underwriting potential investment opportunities, and financial modeling. Analysts should have a minimum of 1-3 years of experience, and Associates 5+ years experience within the Investment Banking or real estate sectors and degreed with an emphasis in Finance, Real Estate, or other technical disciplines.

Open Positions

Senior Accountant – Irvine, CA

This position reports to the Accounting Manager in the corporate accounting department. The Senior Accountant will perform the daily accounting duties to ensure that financial and operating reports are timely and accurately reflect the condition of Colony's global operating companies.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for month end close of globally consolidating operations
  • Document financial variances from budget and/or prior periods
  • Prepare management reporting packages
  • Document and quantify differences between GAAP and Cash basis financials
  • Complete ad hoc financial analysis assignments
  • Review and approve journal entries prepared by staff accountants and accounting clerks
  • Act as primary liaison on year-end audits
  • Assist with budgets and forecasts
  • Globally interface with other departments and offices to administer headquarter accounting policies
  • Innovate solutions to fix inefficient processes and policies to strengthen internal controls
  • Assist in other areas as needed

Skills and Attributes Required:

  • Must have attained senior accountant level, or equivalent, at a public accounting firm – Big Four and CPAs preferred
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Self-motivated and display initiative

 






Senior Investment Accountant – Santa Monica, CA

This position is responsible for assigned partnerships and investments.  This includes the general day-to-day maintenance relating to the assigned partnerships and investments.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to cash projections, recurring payments, monthly accruals, quarterly reporting and monitoring of agreements.

Responsibilities:

Fund Accounting:

  • Read and understand Partnership Agreements
  • Consolidation/Elimination entries
  • Calculate management fees
  • Manage monthly expense accruals and payments
  • Foreign currency transactions
  • Maintain capital commitment report
  • Quarterly financial statements
  • Quarterly investor statements
  • Annual financial statement audit, including footnotes


Cash Management

  • Read and understand credit facility
  • Manage line of credit borrowings and pay-downs
  • Maintain cash projections
  • Review daily cash balance report
  • Maintain interest accruals and amortization of fees related to credit facility
  • Calculate and record all capital calls and distributions
  • Prepare capital call exhibits
  • Prepare investor distribution statements
  • Process deal fundings, including set-up of new entities and bank accounts

Investment

  • Read and understand all related agreements/documentation relating to investments within assigned funds
  • Investment capitalization
  • Understand deal structure
  • Record investment proceeds and cost basis relief across various funds
  • Assist Controller with preparation/review of fair value calculations
  • Periodic review of investment against underwriting
  • Track 3rd party debt

Other Tasks

  • Supervise staff
  • Invoice coding for A/P department
  • Approval of staff journal entries and wires
  • Ad hoc Investor Requests

Requirements:

  • CPA or MBA, and 4-year degree in Accounting
  • 4-6 years work experience
  • Self starter
  • Ability to manage work of staff accountants
  • Proficient with MS Word and Excel
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective team member and self-starter
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate appropriately
  • Previous investment industry and partnership accounting experience highly desired
